The first Scooby-Doo film was not only a huge box-office success, but you will not find a more accurate transferral of a cartoon to a live action movie. Every typical event and cliché from the animated series was included in the film, to the point where it really may as well have been another animated episode.

The story line of this latest instalment isn't going to win any awards, but involves an evil mastermind creating a hoard of monsters to take over Coolsville and ruin Mystery Inc. Meanwhile, the members of the gang are each tackling various personal crises, much like in the first film.

The makers of the inevitable sequel have again gone to great lengths to capture the feel of the television series; although you get the feeling they used up all the really good stuff in the original movie and have fallen back on slapstick comedy to entertain the audience.

However, on its own terms, this is an excellent movie for children, particularly if they are into goofy antics, the Scooby-Doo cartoon or the first film. There are a few genuinely funny jokes for adults, but nowhere near as many as you will find in something like Finding Nemo. Having said that, every time somebody got hit in the face during the film, a small girl in the cinema behind me insisted that it "was funny, wasn't it?" so perhaps you should take her word for it, rather than the opinion of this jaded critic.
